Jade and the rest of the party came back from scoping the place.

“I don’t see anything particularly dangerous,” said Jade.

“Which means we just need to go down, right?” I confirmed.

Our goal wasn’t to clear the labyrinth, after all, but to get the panel that had fallen into the lower level. We just needed to go down far enough to find it.

We headed down the stairs. As we went, the architecture of the pyramid shifted from man-made structures to the old, natural stone of a cave. A vast space opened up once we got to the bottom of the stairs, and bluish-white lights illuminated the cave. Again, we wouldn’t need any light magic.

Huge, stalactite-like pillars hung from the ceiling. I wondered if we’d end up caved in if those broke… Yeah, I’d need to be careful if I was going to use magic here.

“So, where do we go?”

We all looked at Karina. From here on out, we’d be following Karina’s directions. She closed her eyes for a couple of seconds, then slowly opened them.

“That way,” she said as she pointed. “But I feel it from below.”

“So you’re saying we need to go deeper, then.”

It was exactly as Karina had suspected. I kind of felt like digging…but I didn’t know in what direction to dig. If I did, I could’ve made, like, a pipe, and we could’ve slid down it like a slide to get there directly.

I’d put that aside for a last resort, maybe. For now, we headed off in the direction Karina indicated.

I used my detection skill. I didn’t know how they’d gotten in here, but I spotted sand wolves and sand wyrms. Well, Jade and his party were here, and the monsters weren’t that powerful, as far as those things go.

“Yuna, do you really think we’ll be able to find it?” asked Karina. She seemed worried.

“We should be able to if you just know which direction it’s in.” Worst case, there was always my pipe method.

“Do you think there’ll be monsters?” she asked.

There would be, a little farther ahead. We kept going through the cave, which was filled with craggy rock faces with small openings.

“I heard that adventurers would come to hunt monsters down here,” I said. “Do you think there really are any around?”

“Ahead, maybe,” Mel answered, looking down at a piece of paper. “Supposedly, monsters fall from above in this area.”

“They fall? Like how?”

“I’m not sure. I heard at the guild that the monsters drop and that’s why this place is used as a hunting ground.”

We kept heading forward to where the monsters would apparently drop.

“According to the map, it’s up ahead.”

Jade held his arm up to the side at the front in order to stop us.

“Sand wyrms,” he said.

I asked Kumakyu to protect Karina and checked it out from atop Kumayuru. Jade was right. There were sand wyrms. I could see about ten of them writhing around, but the ground wasn’t made of sand, so they couldn’t burrow down into it.

“But how do they drop?” Mel murmured, and at that moment, something fell from above.
